Hosseini uses imagery here to show how women and men take on different roles in this society. While in other cultures women would usually be introduced to a friend, here women are objectified and are not treated the same way. It shows that even though women are treated equally in other areas of the world, it is still an issue in Afghanistan, even in these modern years.
